Optimising Electric Vehicle Charging Station Placement Using Advanced Discrete Choice Models

We present a new model for finding the optimal placement of electric vehicle charging stations across multi-period time frame so as to maximise adoption. Via use advanced discrete choice models and user classes, this work allows granular modelling attributes their preferences in regard station characteristics. Instead embedding an analytical probability formulation, we adopt simulation approach pre-compute error terms each option available users given number scenarios. This results bilevel optimisation that is, however, intractable all but simplest instances. Using pre-computed calculate covered by maximum covering model, which solutions can be found more efficiently than formulation. The formulation remains some instances, propose rolling horizon, greedy, GRASP heuristics obtain good quality efficiently.
